Opinion and debate

Columnists and debate digests

Clearly attributed commentary from guest columnists and the editorial board, with debate digests summarizing the strongest arguments on both sides of each week's issues.

Guest columnists

Weekly columns from outside writers, each labeled as opinion and kept separate from reported news.

Editorial board briefs

Short position statements from the editorial board, each marking where its view differs from our reporting.

Debate digests

A weekly roundup that sets out the strongest arguments on each side of a contested public or cultural question.

How we separate reporting from commentary

Confirmed reporting

Each item states what is confirmed, names its source, and marks any part still developing. Where facts are unsettled, the briefing says so plainly.

Attributed commentary

Opinion items carry a clear byline and an opinion label. They are presented as argument, never as established fact, so readers can weigh them on their own terms.
